Cowboys owner Jerry Jones weighs in on Stars-Mavericks arena dispute
2+ week, 2+ day ago (408+ words) As the Mavericks and Stars continue to ponder their futures inside or outside the city limits of Dallas, questions remain about which areas of North Texas could become the future home of Texas hockey, should it be on the move. The Stars, like the Dallas Cowboys, already have a footprint in Frisco thanks to the Comerica Center serving as the team's headquarters and practice facility. But has Jerry Jones had any conversations regarding the Stars joining the Cowboys in Frisco full-time with a new arena? "No, we have not. We have not at all," the Cowboys owner and general manager said during a radio appearance Friday on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM). Talks of a potential franchise relocation stem from a legal battle between the Stars and Mavericks over a contract breach and the future of American Airlines Center. The Mavericks filed…...
The Texas Longhorns aced their first November test but more await: ‘Everybody is hungry’
3+ week, 6+ day ago (459+ words) Texas Rangers and college sports reporter AUSTIN " The seven-spot climb that Texas took in Sunday's Associated Press Top 25 poll suggests that voters believed an almost-perfect win vs. a ranked opponent was enough to recertify the preseason title favorites as legitimate contenders. The man in charge considers it a box that the Longhorns are now required to check in order to survive. "They're all statement wins right now," Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said after Saturday's 34-31 win vs. Vanderbilt. "We put ourselves in this position." So, to Sarkisian's point, Saturday's win at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium was a statement that the Longhorns aren't yet out of the fight. It was only the first test, though, in a November slate that will determine the team's immediate future. "I addressed what the month of November is going to be with the team, but then we…...

3+ week, 4+ day ago (293+ words) Winning a district title is a feat in itself, but going back-to-back might be an even bigger one. Several Dallas-area districts have not yet crowned a district champion entering the final week of the Texas high school football regular season. Southlake Carroll, the state's top-ranked 6A team, went back-to-back in District 4-6A. Five-time state champion Allen clinched its second consecutive district title, holding off Prosper 31-30 in Week 9 to distance itself from the District 6-6A pack. West Mesquite, 7-0 in District 6-5AI, is the back-to-back district champion, and Argyle, a 5A Division II state semifinalist last season, won its fourth straight district title. Here’s some good housing news, Dallas
3+ week, 4+ day ago (216+ words) The Catholic Housing Initiative typically focuses on multifamily projects. It has bought and rehabilitated, or built from the ground up, hundreds of apartments for tenants with modest or low incomes. CHI also has converted former hotels into permanent supportive housing for very low-income older, disabled or formerly homeless residents. The public-private partnership in the Five Mile neighborhood focuses on helping working-class families become homeowners. The city of Dallas owned dozens of lots in the area, most through foreclosures related to unpaid back taxes. CHI agreed to buy parcels for $1,000 each, but before development could begin, the nonprofit faced two major hurdles. One was bureaucratic. Each property's title had to be cleared of liens, and many parcels required HUD-mandated environmental reviews. The newest CHI houses have three bedrooms and two baths, a sales price of $239,000 and an appraised value, according to…...
Desoto-Longview headlines Dallas vs. East Texas in area round of UIL football playoffs
1+ week, 3+ day ago (323+ words) Perhaps one of the best things about the Texas high school football playoffs are the intrastate matchups, and the area round has plenty to offer in that department. Several Dallas-area teams will face programs from East Texas this week, with DeSoto-Longview being the headlining contest. When the teams met in last year's regional finals, Longview routed DeSoto 50-14. The three-time state champion has a chance for revenge this week against the state power from East Texas. Longview recorded 427 yards on the ground in its win last year, but DeSoto's run defense is much improved in 2025. In a 63-6 win over Copperas Cove last week, DeSoto allowed just 22 yards on 27 carries. Longview (74), which finished 4-2 in District 10-6A, is looking to win two straight against DeSoto after routing Rowlett 63-7 in the first round. East Texas teams fared well against area programs in last year's second…...
